2024 OWBL Highlights – Great Britain Comes to Play Baseball and More

Published by Ontario Womens Baseball League on

The 2024 OWBL season was quite eventful so we wanted to share 5 highlights from last year’s season.

1. Seventh Annual Girls Day of Baseball

The Toronto Fusion Women’s Tournament team hosted a free clinic to teach baseball skills to girls aged 7 to 15. Rain prevented the afternoon girls session from happening this year, but the morning session went through and was tons of fun!

2. Third Year of the On Deck Learn to Play Program

This past year marked the third year of the On Deck Learn to Play Program. Throughout the years, we have had people with a range of baseball experience sign up including players new to baseball, softball players, and baseball players with rusty skills. Players from different walks of life join such as post-secondary school students, moms and people new the country. Each year the cohorts have been great and supportive of each other having fun and learning baseball!

3. Skill-Developing Mixed Team Games

This year we introduced mixed team games. In these casual games, players from the league teams mix to create new teams. Players get to try new positions and hone their skills in a very collaborative setting. We had players try out pitching and playing catcher. We also had On Deck players come out to get some in-game experience!

4. Great Britain’s Women’s Baseball Team Comes to Play

The OWBL was happy for the unique opportunity to host the Great Britain’s Women’s Baseball Team this past summer. Our tournament team and league teams each played a game against Great Britain’s team. We also had a chance to chat and share our experiences during a pizza dinner social between a double header game.

5. Toronto Fusion Tournaments

Toronto Fusion played in their regular tournaments in both Virginia and Florida this year. There were adventures on and off the diamond. Our final game in Florida ended with a win and lots of fun was had by all.

We are looking forward to more fun in 2025!
