OWBL EVENTS

GIRLS’ DAY OF BASEBALL

Since 2015, OWBL’s tournament team, Toronto Fusion, has hosted Girls’ Day of Baseball. Often our first day on the field, we look forward to sharing our love of the game with the upcoming generation of ballplayers. We teach girls aged 7 to 15 baseball skills including, hitting, throwing, outfield, infield, baserunning, and having fun!

Traditionally, we run the event at Queensway Baseball diamond at the end of April. It has been generously sponsored by the Etobicoke Baseball Association, Royal York Baseball League, and Ontario Women’s Baseball League. In 2020, due to the COVID19 pandemic, we were unable to run the event on the field, so instead provided some virtual lessons and drills to practice at home on our YouTube page, Baseball with Toronto Fusion.

We are back on the field for Girls’ Day of Baseball 2022!

MEGA GIRLS AND WOMEN’S BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

In 2019, OWBL participated in the inaugural Mega Girls and Women’s Baseball Tournament organized by members of the OWBL, Shawna-Marie Harper, Karen Proctor, and Andrea Harris. This initiative allowed girls and women from across Canada and the U.S. to meet and play competitive ball. There were fourteen teams from Rookie Ball to the Women’s level.

Not only was it a great opportunity for the younger girls to play ball, it was also an opportunity for our own OWBL league players to meet and play with players from other leagues. There were ice cream snacks, BBQs, face painting, and baseball fun for all involved. Our 2020 Mega Girls and Women’s Baseball Tournament was cancelled due to the COVID19 pandemic.  Stay tuned for details of our next tournament.  Note that at this time, there are no plans to run the tournament in 2022.
